Dibrugarh City College is an institution for Higher Education for Boys and Girls offering Higher Secondary and Degree Courses in Arts. Established in July 1992, this Non -Government Public College, situated in the South -Western outskirts of Dibrugarh Town at Nirmali gaon, caters to the needs of the poor and backward population of the neighbouring rural and Tea Garden areas of the Districts of Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Dhemaji. The College is an affiliated institution under the Dibrugarh University. The college has been awarded “B” Grade by NAAC with effect from 23rd Nevember, 2005. It offers the traditional programmes for Degree Courses. It has started self- financing Diploma Courses in Computer Education and short certificate courses in Electrician, Motor -Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, Draughtsman, Welder, Fitter, Radio & T.V. Technician. The campus area of the college covers about 1.72 acres of land. Besides the well -furnished class rooms, office buildings, the college has a Library and an Auditorium. A one storey girls’ hostel has already been constructed and the college proposes to construct another one for the boys. Other support services include a canteen, Sports facilities and a playground. The college attempts to create a hygienic atmosphere in the campus to augment the quality of education . The Arts faculty of the college education is consisting of nine departments namely Assamese, English, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, Education History, Philosophy and Anthropology. The Principal of the college and other two teachers obtained Ph. D. Degree, three teaches have obtained M. Phil Degree. The teaching faculty is energetic and quite component and they prepare the annual teaching plan to complete the syllabus accordingly. At present the college has 27 well qualified and experienced teachers along with administrative, technical and supporting staff. The total strength of the students of the college is 1200 and total teaching days of the college is 180. On the other hand, the total number of working days of Library and the Administrative office is 277 days. The college imparts physical training and value based education through NCC. The college also has applied to open NSS wing for social awareness programme and other activities of the college. The college has constituted a number of committees through which the academic and other activities may be performed smoothly. As per the guide lies of the NAAC the college has constituted internal quality assurance. Cell (IQAC) for performing the following functions of the college : a. Development and application of quality benchmarks / Parameters in various activities of the institution. b. Organization of discussion, workshops, seminars and promotion of quality circles.] c. Recording and monitoring quality measures of the institution. d. Preparation of the Annual Quantity Assurance Reports (AQAR) and such other reports as may be decided from time to time. There is a provision of reservation of seats regarding admission in the college for the following communities as per Government order, 7% for SC, 10% ST(P), 5% ST(H), 27% for OBC and MOBC and 4% TGL. |
